The Problem
A Midwest manufacturer of cryotherapy products and heat pads used for patient care during surgeries and other medical procedures was experiencing significant problems in product performance due to quality issues from its incumbent supplier.
These pads were made from polyethylene (PE) film laminated to other substrates that were made up of nonwoven materials. During the converting process, channels are created which enable water to be delivered at specific temperatures to regulate the body during surgery or maintained in post-surgery.
The original materials were not meeting these requirements causing field failures as well as potential leaking that could create a dangerous situation in the operating room. Pregis was able to custom engineer a film to meet the high quality requirements and stabilize the inconsistency in processing.
